ROMANTIC POEMS
For the Hearts in Love
MONICA TOMA
KISSING YOU
I left the cafe to go home,
but you ran after me,
and held my hand.
The night was young,
and we felt happy and free
under the stars.
And there was something
about your presence
that made me want to hold you
and fill myself with your
unspeakable sweetness.
And the rain started
to fall on us,
and we looked and looked
at each other
until there was
no one left in the world.
And the drops kept falling
while we kissed,
and we kissed
till we forgot the rain
and ourselves,
and became one.
LOVE CAME TO ME
Love came to me
through the smile of my friend
when all the trees stood silent.
I knew his heart,
he knew me better than myself,
we shared sorrows and dreams,
and a pond in the garden.
Love came to me
through the smile of my friend
on a winter evening.
His eyes seemed brighter
and his voice deeper.
As he called my name,
my heart felt like singing.
Love came to me
through the smile of my friend,
and the winter got warmer.
As we walked together
in the quiet village,
the whole world seemed kinder.
I was born in Romania and I grew up in Transylvania, surrounded by mountains, love and poetry. Since I was passionate about literature, I studied philology and, today, I’m still spending a large part of my time in the delightful world of books.
I’ve always thought being in love is one of the greatest gifts of life. This volume of poetry was born precisely from this conviction. I wanted to reveal in it the extraordinary feeling of falling head over heels, the wonderful happiness of sharing a moment with the person one deeply loves. However, since love is sometimes accompanied by sorrow, I’ve also expressed, in some of the poems, the pain of not being able to be with that special someone.
I hope this volume will strike a chord in your heart. For I believe in the ability of poetry to build bridges from one soul to another, in its power to make our hearts beat in unison. I believe in its capacity to spread beauty, joy, empathy, trust and hope. Poetry is the gift we give to others. I believe in its miracle. Poetry is love.
